Televisit Vitals FAQ

Answers to clinical, technical, and implementation questions about capturing vital signs during virtual visits

Frequently Asked Questions

Heart rate measurements achieve mean absolute error below 3 BPM validated against FDA-cleared pulse oximeters across diverse populations. While camera-based vitals are designed for screening and trending rather than diagnostic measurement, they provide the same clinical utility as vitals taken during a standard office visit — sufficient for medication adjustments, triage decisions, and longitudinal monitoring.

Vital signs data is delivered as HL7 FHIR Observation resources compatible with Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH, and other EHR systems. Integration options include FHIR R4 API, HL7v2 ORU message feeds, and direct REST API. Our clinical informatics team supports configuration and testing to ensure vitals populate your flowsheets, clinical notes, and trending views correctly.

Patients notice almost nothing different about their virtual visit. During the 30-second capture window, they see a brief indicator that vitals are being measured. They don't need to download an app, create an account, pair a device, or perform any action beyond looking at their camera — which they're already doing for the video visit. Patient satisfaction scores remain unchanged or improve.

Typical implementation follows a phased approach: pilot department (2-4 weeks), department rollout (4-6 weeks), enterprise expansion (8-12 weeks). The technical integration itself takes 1-2 weeks. The majority of implementation time is spent on clinical workflow design, provider training, and change management — areas where our clinical implementation team provides direct support.

Yes. Patient consent is managed through your existing telehealth consent workflows. We provide configurable consent language and a consent capture module that integrates into your pre-visit or visit intake process. Consent records are logged for audit purposes and comply with institutional data governance requirements.

Configurable alert rules notify the provider in real-time during the visit. For post-visit monitoring scenarios, escalation pathways can trigger nursing callbacks, urgent appointment scheduling, or care team notifications based on your institution's clinical protocols. Alert thresholds are configurable by specialty and patient population.
